Iowa Rap

Eat your hearts out, Kanye, JayZ, Run-DMC, Sugar Hill Gang and NWA (not to mention Tone Loc and Biz Markey!); it turns out we've misunderstood the origins of rap music.  THC realized this while stumbling across The Music Man playing on cable, which he probably had not seen since it was in the theaters back in 1962.  The movie is an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical from 1957, written and composed by Meredith Willson (Sir Paul McCartney currently owns the Willson song catalogue).

"Ya Got Trouble" is definitely the ur-moment in the creation of rap.  Listen as Professor Harold Hill, played by Robert Preston, lays downs some truth, including some ribald slang, for the peeps of River City, Iowa!
